Subject:Craig Kelly - Loose Women Video Interview
Security:Public

http://youtu.be/knkW22Okwok

He's gone from playing the devious Luke Strong - who after swindling poor Rosie Webster out of £90,000 made his getaway to Rio de Janeiro - in Coronation Street, to treading the boards in the West End.

Now Craig Kelly heads into the Loose Women studio to talk about starring in Chicken with our very own Lisa Maxwell, method acting and...his shoes!

----

Set in the Bronx, Chicken is a gritty play full of street-smart humour about two childhood pals, Wendall and Floyd, an unhappy wife - and a sickly rooster they are grooming for an illegal cockfight.

Wendall (Craig Kelly, Coronation Street, Queer as Folk) and his pregnant wife Lina (Lisa Maxwell, Loose Women, The Bill) live in a stifling and cramped apartment, full of the mess of desperate people. Floyd (George Georgiou, Mamma Mia!-The Movie) is kipping down on the sofa, and a visit from his father (Andy Lucas), his brash ex wife (Amy Tez) and the local hustler (Daniel Yabut), clearly shows what an unstable upbringing and a burning desire for money can do -- but will the cock be their meal ticket?

Chicken is an acute observation of modern life in the city, as the dysfunctional friends scrabble and strut like cocks, fighting in the grimy, slightly desperate world they inhabit. There is no working class -- this is the world of the new underclass.

Former Strictly Come Dancing rivals Craig Kelly and Joe Calzaghe were reunited last night at the premiere of New Yorker Mike Batistick's comedy Chicken at Trafalgar Studios 2.

Set in the Bronx, Chicken is billed as a "gritty play full of street-smart humour" and centres on two childhood pals, Wendall (played by Kelly) and Floyd, an unhappy wife, and a sickly rooster they are grooming for an illegal cockfight.

Director Sam Neophytou and other cast members George Georgiou (Floyd) and Lisa Maxwell (Lina) were among those enjoying the post-show party at Brasserie Blanc. Also out to show support were actor Deepak Verma and Maxwell's Loose Women co-presenter Jane McDonald.

Chicken is playing at Trafalgar Studio 2 until 21 July 2012.

THEY play a down-trodden couple in turmoil on stage, but thankfully off stage Loose Women star Lisa Maxwell and former Coronation Street actor Craig Kelly are more than loved-up with their real-life partners – so much so that after 15 years, Lisa’s finally getting married (following her own leap year proposal), while Craig proposed to his girlfriend on holiday on a Spanish island, where they returned a year later to tie the knot!

The West-End premiere of the dark and devilish comedy CHICKEN arrives at the Trafalgar Studio 2 from tonight, 25 June 2012, starring Craig Kelly - known from his roles as Luke Strong in Coronation Street and Vince Tyler in Queer as Folk - as Wendall. CHICKEN will play until Saturday 21 July 2012. The opening night is on Tuesday 26 June at 7pm.

Set in the Bronx, CHICKEN is a gritty play full of street-smart humour about two childhood pals, Wendall and Floyd, an unhappy wife - and a sickly rooster they are grooming for an illegal cockfight.

Wendall and his pregnant wife’s stifling and cramped apartment is full of the mess of desperate people. Floyd (George Georgiou, Mamma Mia!-The Movie) is kipping down on the sofa, and a visit from his father, his brash ex wife and the local hustler, clearly shows what an unstable upbringing and a burning desire for money can do – but will the cock be their meal ticket?

CHICKEN is an acute observation of modern life in the city, as the dysfunctional friends scrabble and strut like cocks, fighting in the grimy, slightly desperate world they inhabit. There is no working class – this is the world of the new underclass.

CHICKEN, is written by new playwright, New Yorker Mike Batistick. CHICKEN opened off Broadway starring The Sopranos actor Michael Imperioli, at his theatre, Studio Dante.

Imperioli says of CHICKEN: “I loved the play from the first time I read it. I love the way Batistick handles New York: by setting it in this melting-pot environment it reflects any major modern city. The play is of our time, as it is filled with multi-cultural characters put in this pressure-cooker environment”.

The production is led by director Sam Neophytou (Bodega Lung Fat, Hackney Empire). CHICKEN is produced by Inner City Productions – a company devoted to developing new works that reflect the multi-cultural and multi-faceted nature of city life. Inner City Productions was founded in 2008 by George Georgiou and Sam Neophytou and their patrons include: Christopher Fettes (The Drama Centre) and the writer Martin Sherman. CHICKEN was cast by Urvashi Chugani Chand and the set design will incorporate the innovative print and design gallery Jealous, who will be creating screen prints by new artist David Illari.

Inner City Productions makes its West End debut with CHICKEN and aims to “make good theatre public and public theatre good” (Joan Littlewood).

Tickets start from £17.50 in the 98-seat Trafalgar Studio 2.

"Legend has it they failed" the project...haha!

Dean Taylor posted it just last week! And OMG - how adorable, and awkward...lol, are they all? Craig looks sooooo young (baby face!), and John - totally endearing seeing him as a teen. (Though he looks like a teen Rick Astley or Anthony Michael Hall...lol.) All of this is a bit ... rough and off the cuff, but still - I was laughing. :)

Take a look and enjoy!

PS - From the perspective of how Craig looked at 16 - if you think of Vince at the same age, how in the HELL did Stuart Alan Jones resist???
